MY BOOKS AND WELCOME TO THEM

Join April's Mailing List

Hi!  Thanks for your interest in my writing!
I write in many genres. I particularly love the juxtaposition of words and pictures.

I'm lucky that all of my work has been illustrated: picture books, dozens of poems in magazines and books; even GIRL COMING IN FOR A LANDING--a novel in poems--has pictures!  Every one of the 100+ poems is illustrated in collage by the incredible Elaine Clayton.                               Click here for 1 minute book trailer

Part of the pleasure of writing, for me, is sharing.  My first three picture books are now out of print and I want to share them with you; the manuscripts are yours to download below.

My words are also available on CD.

LINES IN THE SAND--NEW WRITING ON WAR AND PEACE
by Mary Hoffman (Editor), Rhiannon Lassiter (Editor)
With over 150 poems, stories and pictures about war and peace, all royalties from the book will go to UNICEF to directly fund the bringing of aid to child victims of the war in Iraq. Described by Publishing News as "one of the hottest books of [the 2003 Bologna Children's Book Fair]" and by the London Sunday Times as "an uplifting and impassioned collection that goes beyond ephemeral politics to broaden children¹s understanding of their own and others' history and to encourage them to aspire to a better world".
